The smart precinct

Over the last few years, due to the uncontrolled growth of the e-commerce sector, the quotient of malls to serve as a public space has seen a significant decline. The graph of ‘Dead’ or ‘partially defunct’ malls have seen a steady growth all over the world which has affected the urban fabric of the city. ‘Dead’ or unsuccessful malls can be radically reconfigured physically, architecturally, and programmatically. Since the shopping malls have now become the focal point in so many people’s lives, Redressing the Mall is timely and necessary.

“The Smart Precinct” is an experiential design that aims at using technology to establish a way to energize these public facilities, to re-concieve them both as extracts and as edifices that can really re-engross a community.

Initial Ideation

Ideation.png

I started the project by translating my thoughts onto an experience map that summarizes the experiences I would want a user to go through during his journey through this space.

VISUALIZING THE USER JOURNEY

The next step was to ideate these motives and define the values of the experience for the user. I designed a schematic user journey map through the space which demonstrated the how the space would function and how a user will feel during the experience.

When defining my user journey, I designed three main touchpoints for my users which I designed in the next (final) phase of the project. The resultant of the user journey map also gave me the liberty to analyze the pain points and gain points a user would experience in his journey.

Final Phase : detailing THE TOUCHPOINTS

In the final stage of the project, I worked out the three touchpoints in detail to bridge the gap between the physical and digital experiences of the project.

Touchpoint 1 : The App

The mobile application built to support this entire system is the basic link which ties all the functions taking place in the precinct. The application is user friendly and gives an opportunity to the users to connect with people from their own neighbourhood.

Touchpoint 2 : The Collision Space

The scenario below is that of a smart office space that has been envisioned as a co-working space. The internal amphitheatre that has been designed as part of the precinct will act as a good spillover for good interaction amongst the people working in the atmosphere.

Touchpoint 3 : The Interactive Zone

An Augmented Reality Screen which pops up when a person walks into the space and logs into the app.The two modes on the screen have been explained in the scenarios that have been illustrated above and below. The above scenario illustrates the personal mode where as the one below states the scenario when one opts to choose the kids mode.
